  • Why do some students need intervention? Best practices for effective intervention

BLAST TRAINING​

  • Review all components of the BLAST intervention toolkits including lesson plans, word sorts, games,                        writing, and instructional tools

  • Highlight the main teaching points in each of the toolkits, potential student challenges, and model                            Phonological Awareness and Phonemic Awareness visual tools and cues

  • Demonstrate lesson pacing and techniques for the most effective teaching of each lesson element   

  • Review the BLAST assessment, work with staff to promote consistent administration, and assist in                            recording student data

  • Develop and share organizational tools to suit the needs of the school such as data collection, student                    progress tracking, student attendance, etc.

  • Record assessment results and help to identify trends, strengths, and individual testing results

  • Facilitate staff participation in the placement of students into BLAST groups to start the intervention using              the data collected with the assessment tool.

  • Ongoing staff support answering questions that come from teaching toolkit lessons and help in                               re-grouping students after lessons and re-assessments are compete
