BLAST
Intervention
Toolkits
What do BLAST toolkits provide?
Each BLAST toolkit holds 9 daily lesson plans
and all of the additional materials needed
to teach one of the Phonological Awareness
or Phonics skills in the skill progression.
Toolkits are numbered to align with this
developmental progression so that
when students master one skill (complete a toolkit), they move on to the next skill/toolkit.
A complete set of BLAST toolkits comes with
12 toolkits, one for each skill in the progression,
and the BLAST assessment to identify student needs and easily place them in a toolkit.
What comes in a BLAST toolkit?
The BLAST assessment is designed to easily place students in the appropriate toolkit based on their needs.
Visual supports are stored in a separate folder and are used multiple times throughout the lessons.
Daily, detailed lesson plans with specific instructions for each day's skill.
Laminated whiteboards allow students to apply phonics skills they learn by writing words and phrases.
All of the materials for each day are stored in separate file folders, ready to open and teach.
Each lesson uses word or activity cards to support visual and multi-sensory teaching
A caddy is provided to store all the file folders and gray bins to hold manipulatives.
All manipulatives, (tokens, cubes, game pieces, dice, etc.) are stored in the caddy.
Students practice the phonics skills they are learning by playing two games each day.
